Village of Providence annual Christmas tree lighting sparks competition between local businesses to benefit Toys for Tots
For Immediate Release
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (November 7, 2014) As the thermometer begins to plummet and the available shopping days grow fewer and fewer, it is time to usher in the Christmas season. The Village of Providence, located in west Huntsville is offering the perfect way to celebrate the commencement of holiday festivities.
On Friday, November 28th, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm, The Village of Providence will be hosting their annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony.
This year, the trees are sure to be bigger and fuller than ever before, and when the clock strikes 6:00 pm, the entire Village will be awestruck by the brilliant show of multi-color lights that will illuminate the area.
"This event has become a community-recognized tradition here in North Alabama," said Todd Slyman, a Village of Providence co-founder, "And every year we try to make it a little different while also maintaining the same sights and activities that children and adults expect every year, like taking photos with Santa Claus. It really does showcase the importance we place on heart and tradition here at Providence."
Village businesses have particularly gotten into the act for this year's festivities. Many of the merchants throughout Providence will be providing family-friendly activities for both young and old alike at the event, such as a corn-hole competition, a giant Jenga attraction, and a cookie decorating station.
Additionally, in order to encourage healthy and worthwhile rivalry between establishments within the Village of Providence, each will compete with one another in collecting unwrapped and unopened Christmas gifts for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves' charity, Toys for Tots.
Beginning on November 3rd, businesses can collect the unopened toys from community members. All items collected will be gifted to less fortunate children in the Huntsville area. The competition will conclude onDecember 8th. The business that amasses the largest number of toys by the end of the contest, will have a $500 contribution to Toys for Tots made in their honor by The Village of Providence.
"Here at Providence, we believe that the Christmas season is all about giving back. That's the reason why we host this annual event. It's an effort to show our appreciation to a community who has been so good to the Village over the past decade. Now, we want to give North Alabama a chance to give less fortunate families in our area a chance to have a holiday season filled with fulfillment and gratitude as well," continued Slyman.
In order to show public support for the worthy cause, the Village of Providence is also requesting that anyone interested in volunteering at the Christmas Tree Lighting send a quick note of interest to trent@villageofprovidence.com.
Slyman concluded, "We have such a great month ahead of us here at the Village of Providence, and our hope is that we can see everyone at our Annual Christmas Tree Lighting event. It will be a night of fun-filled activities and festive sights that one will not soon forget."
