Master Plan
Providence... a traditional village
Providence is a community that is setting a new standard in excellence for Huntsville residents - a real neighborhood, not just a development. It is a pedestrian friendly village where residents will have the freedom to live, learn, work, shop and play in an authentic neighborhood built upon time-tested principles of traditional architecture and town planning.
To accommodate diverse lifestyles, Providence offers a variety of interesting architectural designs creating a beautiful visual diversity within the village, while allowing residents the expression of individuality. All generations of a family can live in the same neighborhood in the style of their choice.
The Meeting House provides a place for cultural activities; and pools, tennis courts, and an outdoor concert area ensure ample recreational opportunities. Families stroll on generous sidewalks and plazas, play in creek-side parks, walk on trails, or just enjoy the beautiful scenery and interesting destinations throughout the village. All streets are narrow to ensure slow-paced traffic and pedestrian safety.
Neighborhood School
Another important civic element is our school, which serves kindergarten through eighth grade. The Huntsville Board of Education worked tirelessly to develop a school that promotes the "neighborhood school concept" where children can actually walk to school. The design complements the traditional landscape of Providence and is the backdrop for childhood memories for generations to come.
Values & Traditions
Providence planners and designers have placed great emphasis on freedom - freedom for children to walk to school or local parks, freedom for the elderly to walk to shops and activities, and for all, the freedom ensured by a sense of personal security. The Providence community is designed for anyone seeking the comforts and conveniences of a modern neighborhood with the values and traditions of yesterday.
Designing Providence
Andres Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, the husband and wife team of DPZ & Company, were commissioned by Town Makers in 2002 to create the master plan for The Village of Providence. Founded in 1980, DPZ has designed more than one hundred new towns and revitalization projects for existing communities both in the United States and abroad. The town of Seaside, Florida, one of the firm's early projects and the first traditional town to be built since World War II, has been labeled by Time Magazine as "the development of the century."
Providence ... preserving America's finest blessings - freedom, family, and beauty.
